I have just got my first surf a 91 2.4 ln130 and the ac does not work. The compressor is free but the electronic clutch does not engage. I cant seem to find a fuse or relay for the ac. Has any one got any ideas

Have you checked the gas level? I believe these have a low pressure/level cut off which will stop the air con working if the level is low.

I am sure someone will know more than me about this but i believe there is a sight glass somewhere that you can check the levels?

Regas and sniff test needed .
A regas will charge up the system and then a 'sniffer' will find a leak if there is one .
Make sure the correct gas is used , possible R12 or a supercedding one will be used on imports , but someone else may confirm that one .

Low gas will cause the low pressure switch to not engage the compressor clutch to prevent damage to the compressor .

          Hi

All the above entries are spot on - I had exactly the same problem and it just required re-gassing.

There is a drop in replacement for R12 which is RS24 - I had mine done yesterday at a cost of £80 and the system works fine.

Thanks for the info, do any of you know of any where in the Surrey/Hants area where I can get it re-gassed with RS24?
