Fortunately you only used the word 'to'.

Cara, with regards to spotting where any alterations have been done, they'll usually stick out like a sore thumb. The best indication is usually lashings of insulation tape covering a three way join, (most likely twisted together), or the Scotch-Loks.

At least you lot have made me laugh!!!
Looks like I'll have to watch out for someone turning up with no clothes on!!! Would definitely have to watch out for those electrics...ooooh!!!

          Right back to business

Tony, I'm going to borrow my father-in-laws sat nav, as you suggested for our trip ( he doesnt know yet but I can usually sweet talk him!!)

So, I have checked every wire of the plugs, I've looked at the connecting points of the instrument cluster and the plugs.

On the forums I found another bit of advice - 'on the back of the instrument panel find the screw marked SEN and followed the track back to the plug, to locate the wire for the speed sensor '

So I presume that I know which wire it is but that hasn't helped?!?

Thanks Matt for your advice. On the plug behind the speedometer there are 4 wires that have small red terminal connectors to other wires that then go into a little inch square box, is that the speedo convertor or the splice that makes the speedometer digital (heard that mentioned on the forums, too) ?? I pushed them all in just in case, but they seemed ok.

I'm at a loss as to what to check next, also can anyone let me know if I can do the diagnostic check I mentioned earlier on the Gen 3 96 3.0TD

I'm just wondering if a little knowledge can be dangerous if you know what I mean!!!

Sitting here, sadly drinking red wine hoping for some help

          Cara

I tried changing the screw back but it made no difference.

Now, I have no temperature guage or fuel level guage. And my o/d light has started flashing. It gets worse!!!

So I did diagnostic test as per instructions found on here from Tony (thanks for that ) I have got code 42 , which is No1 Speed sensor circuit apparently but...... what is it, where is it and what do I do when I find it???

              Please help!!
