  • Using a HID KIT and Installion of Hilux Surf

I have a 1992 hilux surf, and i want to put a HID kit on it, Does any one know how to hook up a HID kit, is it possible for them to give me a wiring diagram.
Also the normal lamps for the hilux surf would it be able to use the HID bulbs

    hello there.
most good hid kits will come with detailed instructions including relays and the like .The best idea would be to go to your nearest accessory shop and ask them ,i would think if you were going to be spending £100 quid on lamps they could answer your questions or at least have a look before you buy.
the hid kits do not not use standard lamps
would you just be changing the lamps for cosmetic purposes or because of poor lighting?
if the reason is for poor lighting ?the lamps you have could be the originals
ie over 15 yrs old in that case try something like osram nightbreakers upto 90% more light £22
or wire up some spot lamps !
i have fitted them to wifeys vtec and yes they were brighter but the beam pattern is not fantastic and with the new hid lamps it just shows the pattern up even more and now ive had to change the lens covers front and rear and repeater lens covers to the "crystal style" and had to fit leds 'cos the rest of the lamps looked "old fashioned "

Most kits you get now are plug and play. Have a look at these:http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HID-XENON-CONV...3A1%7C294%3A50

This is definitely a side discussion, but I've never understood how it's legal to retrofit HID headlights. If they are fitted to a new car, that vehicle either has to have self levelling suspension or headlights that are adjustable from the drivers seat because of glare problems. Particularly if they are fitted to a Surf with saggy a**e syndrome I can see all sorts of oncomers getting very blind.

So fitting a HID to the hilux would be a bad thing then, Because i find my headlamps to be really dim. I running a 90/100Wat bulb in it and still seems to give very dim lighting.
What bulbs do you have in yours

Hello again, it's nice to see you back.

Rewire them with heavier cable and relays (the original wiring is too thin), or buy the kit that's available from the USA. Try the forum search function, it's quite good.

Get the brighter bulbs from Halfrauds, mine were £20 a pair (offer price)and make a huge difference!

Well the wiring can handle the current passing throught it i checked it because i really thought it was uncessay to cut and hook up a relay unless i really need it,
The bulbs that you put in what wattage are they and why are they blue? Because those blue tint on the bulb actually is a tint that restricts other colour and only let throught he colours it suppose too, basically your getting a dimmer light with the tint on the bulb

Hi there, great to see you back...

I didn't say the wires couldn't handle the current, I said they were too puny to handle it well.

Trust me; if you rewire them, the lights will be better. That said, maybe all of us that have rewired our headlights and noticed a difference may be wrong.

I assume you've not found the search function yet? This question has been asked and answered dozens of times.

did you not check out TINTIN'S pics .the surf is not a modern vehicle with projector lamp headlights and as he said 20 bar from halfrauds.
btw what surf are you running?
google for wiring diagrams if you cant find any?
i fitted newer lamps, relays and wiring and the lamps are better but not as good as my 09 saab and they never will be .
not being rude but what are you basing the lighting performance on?

Afternoon mate. Good to see you back again.

There are wiring diagrams and links to them on this site; as suggested previously, using the search function will provide you with them. I was even nice enough to post a link containing all the information you need to know about wiring or rewiring your headlamps.

So, instead of continually asking us for information, have the decency to look for it yourself. If you genuinely can't find it, then ask and we'll sort you out.

And out of courtesy, you should introduce yourself before asking questions.

Not strictly true. The idea is to peak the bulbs wavelength somewhere near the eye's peak sensitivity, and for best contrast.

As Albanana said, rewiring with heavier and shorter cable reduces voltage drop across the puny cable that's standard, meaning the bulbs see closer to the 14.4v they should, rather than something significantly lower.
