Whip the motor out and check it's okay, and check the wiring between the tailgate and the body in the plastic conduit at the bottom of the door.

thanks for the quick reply Matt and this may sound a stupid question so please excuse me. How do I tell if the Motor is ok when removed ? What am I looking for as an indicator ? And also if the motor is goosed can I change it with a door one in the meantime ?

I assume by checking the wires I am looking for corrosion or a break in in any of them ?

Thanks again I appreciate the advice trust me, I am therapist and can fix injured limbs and sprains muscle problems but am lost when it comes to auto maintenence etc lol

Check the motor isn't either seized or damaged in any other way. You can connect it to a car battery with a fused lead to check the motor. Passenger side motors will work as replacements. Yup, broken or chafed wires in the loom.

Yup. They're by the window relay unit inside, and you'll see the loom in the bottom of the tailgate when you take the panel off.

Or it could be the park switch on the rear wiper. if the rear wiper isn't parked (or the switch thinks it isn't) you get no movement.

try wigling the rear wiper whilst turning the key.

sorry lads been trying to get on the site for the past week to no avail only reason I seen it was back was an email in reply to this thread.

Anyway , yes I have an update.

Took the panels off etc and done the relay change and the latest was nothing happened positive. So the next thing was to test the motor and wiring loom as advised by MattF.

My mate who is mechanically minded seen that the gears and cogs were dirty and a big clogged up so he reckoned the motor may be siezed as was mentioned. To that end he decided to belt the motor with a hammer " I say belt but it was more a chap" and then asked me to try the window switch again.

BINGO ...the window went down and up albeit slowly. So we cleaned up the wheels that drive the window ( cogs ) I used WD40 and then a silcon based lubricant to grease them up.

It now goes up and down like $$$$ off a shovel...or in laymans terms extremely quickly.

I would like to thank everyone for all the help I received from the guys on here, 1st class people, and MattF you were spot on mate as you speculated it was indeed siezed.

So much for the previous dealer who sold me it telling it me it was the relay and it would cost me £241.00 to remedy it. I have still to phone them and ask how their mechanic came to the conclusion he did as he obviously did not check anything.

I am just so relieved and now I know what to look for I will include the window mechanism in regular service schedules just to be safe.

                          Andy

I tried the trick with hitting it with a hammer still nothing. I can hear clicks from the relay both from the switch and key. Need to charge my motorbike battery and testthe motor now ?. Take it its just a case of 2 wires from the battery to the plug and it should go up or down ? if it dont just swap the wires ?

Hey mark cant help you on the motor side but these guys will just curious as to whether you tried changing the relay's ? Or is that next on the list after you test the motor ?

This is the place anyway to solve your problem anyway. Be patient mate its a case of process by elimination.

The motor is next after work. Then it will be the relays i think. Not sure if its a good sign or a bad sign when you can hear them click with the switch and the key ?
