If I unplug the air temp sensor the old 1990 2LT-E stops smoking but also loses a bit of power. One of the threads had a link to a test, however I couldn't read the test figures. Can someone post them, or another link. Many thanks.

I dont know if it was my link:
http://www.afm15.dial.pipex.com/surf...%20Sensors.pdf
The last page is the one that you need. The legible chart on the left is what you are after. The illegible stuff is just where the print in the book transferred (From being wet I think).
If it doesn't help then let me know and I will explain or redraw the chart for you.

Air Temp Sensors
Hi Rich,
I checked out the charts re the various Temp sensors. Do these resistance values also apply to the 2.4L 2L-TE engine. Got a problem with my surf too. It gives out a large cloud of black smoke whenever I accelerate with a heavy foot. In normal cruising, and moderate acceleration it' ok, but whenever I give it a heavy boot (like I do with petrol engines) it's billows smoke.
Forgive me, as this is my first diesel. Is it wrong to step on the gas pedal as suddenly as one would do with a petrol engine?
Thanks in advance and Happy New Year to ALL!!!

Well spotted, the charts are for a 3.0. However I would be surprised if they aren't the same.
Rich.

Also have a problem with my sensor, but how the hell do you get to it?. Do you have to remove other things to get to it or is there a access point that you can suggest that is not obvious.

Would still like advice on the best way to get to it though.
