  • Panasonic kx-ga21 gps/tuner/av

I don't know if any of you can help me, or give me any information at all....but if you could that would be great.
I recently imported a 93 Hilux surf ssr-g which came with a panasonic gps system as above kx-ga21.
I know the gps is done through a cd - has anyone had any experience obtaining a uk cd that is compatible with that unit? I know its a jap unit but surly their must be some similarities with the uk equivalent?
Also the TV tuner, i am guessing due to the fact its japanese the frequencys are not the same for the UK... is there anything I can do to make any use of this unit at all, or is it useless in the UK?

Any help, links contacts that I can get any information from would be much appreciated....
    Thanks in advance.
    Cheers

    CM.

File the GPS in your nearest small round filing cabinet. It is unlikely that you will be able to get a UK disc set for it. The TV is also not much use without an NTSC to PAL converter and frequency converter.

Basically the best you can do is search on eBay for a new one.

Sorry can't be more positive, you're not the first person to ask this and no-one has come up with a cost effective mod for the existing to make it work which doesn't cost nearly the same as a new one.

    Cheers

      Thanks andy
I guess thats kinda what I was expecting to hear....but at least your answer will save me the time to find that out!
Just on the side... the units got a AV input, will that work with UK appliances i.e playstation2 etc...? or will the NTSC problem get in the way...
      thanks for a quick reply

Get an Ipaq / Tomtom Navigator 2 bundle off eBay for around £300 or there abouts. Add a Bracket from somewhere and you get a GPS that you can move from Car to Car plus get additional software for it for around £150 and you get a full mapping solution that you can use with OS maps in the car (Memory Map).

            Cheers

Nero posted this reply when I asked about Sat Nav

"if its a ADDZEST unit eg nax 9100 (made by clarion in japan)
its the same as the clarion ubits in the uk and will run off clarion maps or maps produced by teleatlas.

i got one in mine and the maps are around £90 each (there just cd roms so if you know anybody with one they could do you a trial copie) not to say i would of course".

Tom Tom 2 / Bluetooth appears popular but I've just sent mine back coz it wouldn't believe me when I said I was in england.

My surf has a matsu****a (muchmore****a) unit which I'm still fighting with, I'll let you know if I make any progress.

              GOOD LUCK
