Brake light keeps blowing fuse HELP Please

TOYOTA SURF K REG 2.4 DIESEL AUTO
Hi After 18 trouble free months my off side brake light bulb blew
I replaced it with the correct new bulb although working for a few minutes
the fuse for the brake lights (which is also the one that releases the gear lever
so you dont have to press the red button) then blew I have checked the wiring and the bulb holder both seem ok but every time I replace the fuse it blows again even if I put in a larger fuse.
any suggestions please.

Take the replaced bulb out and fit correct rate fuse . If it does not blow the fuse again the fault lies within the bulb .

I replaced both rear bulbs and fitted correct fuse ,but as soon as the brakes are applied it blew the fuse , any suggestions ? many thanks

My guess is you've got either a poor earth or you're causing a short every time you touch the brakes. Check around the bulb holders to make sure all the contacts are clean and the earths are in place. Also, get someone to press the brake pedal whilst you watch the rear but connect an electrical test meter rather than a new bulb to the contacts as that way you will still see if it's passing current without blowing another bulb. You might find that the rear lights are lighting up as well which would suggest a bad earth.

If they are all OK then take a look at the connection at the brake pedal. Could be the wire is chaffing on the pedal and causing the short.
