  • Split charging

Right then, I need to add a second battery to my system cos unlike the diesels the v6 only has the one.
According to my local toyota dealer the alternator puts out 60amps
    already have a 70amp/CCA 570 amps
    but want to add a 45 amp/CCA 420 amps
    is this feasible???
The only reason I am using a smaller battery is that it is the bigest one I can shoehorn under the bonnet
    Input please

It's necessity now as I'm running more lights than a Blackpool Tram!!

I don't think that would be a problem as the twin battery surfs alternator only puts 60amps out.

You shouldnt have any problems there with a split charge relay, although the alternator only puts out 60A thats more than ample to keep 2 good batteries charged. I have two batteries on the 4runner one through a split charge relay no problems at all, and when i put the caravan on the back i have THREE batteries because the one in the van gets charged and runs the fridge! It takes a lot to draw 60A from an alternator you would basically need to remove the battery and switch on everything you have!

This is what I have fitted to mine, and it is awesome.

            I have the DBi model

            http://www.ibs-tech.ch/dbs_e.html

You can get them from www.tbruk.com
Speak to Chris Hill, and mention the forum.

It will protect and control the state of the starter battery, then when that is to spec, link the aux batteries and make sure that everything is up to spec.

As you can see from the schematics you can add solar panels to the aux battery to keep that topped up, run your fridge, accessories, etc...
