Loom: Sounds excellent I believe the 92's ECU will need no tricks (although I'd prefer you to do your thing).

Are you still after a GB? Both of mine are sans-bellhousing though.
A Lexus gearbox shipped to me in exchange for a modified loom?

    • Aye, I'll need to find out shipping...but I'm cool with that

I have two looms and two GBs

      • 93 (K) CLEAN-UP BEGINS

Finally got the wiring loom off. But this thing is filthy! Photos don't show the extent...but compared to the 92...it's hacky!

Still, I gave part of it a wipe and it's shiny silver underneath. So not daunted...yet!

The filth is deeper than it looks:

        Sand everywhere. SAND!:

Can't see the deep filth in this one...because of all the leaves and crap!!!:

I think it's reasonably common for loads of crap where the starter motor lives. But this much?

        Anywho...small steps

        • Started to take the fuel rails off, most I've seen are round, mine are square. Thinking it's just the UCF10 vs UCF20 differences.

1: Anyway...the injectors started to come out of the ports. I want them to stay for now. Do they just pop out of the rail? Diagrams seem to suggest so...just don't want to damage them as they're not cheap

2: Also...I have a great, detailed, manual for the engine...but it's the VVTI version. Where can I get a quality one from? I have a poor copy that's unreadable and would like to source a great one that I can print. I'm not paying ebay prices!

3: If I can find the later manifolds...will they fit mine? Like the look of the later ones and mine and fugly.

4: What's the best UK place to source smallish Lexus stuff? Looking at gaskets but they're only state-side (Part Master etc).

          Thanks

          • Also...presumably I can reuse the metal gaskets? They all look good to me

            • Vince: Is there any value in getting some carb cleaner for inside the throttle body and what I can reach in the plenum?

Mine's filthy and the work on cleaning will seem pointless if I don't get it clean inside

The plenum is a right ####### to clean...but it's starting to resemble something newer. Needs to look brand new before I move on

              • I use Mr Muscle oven cleaner and a pressure wash followed by a clean with cellulose thinners when dry.

                • Mr Muscle is a good'n. I like using stuff that I have around to do the job of over-priced "specialist" products

                  Cheers

                  • Scrubbing the Plenum like a #######. It's never going to get as clean as I want.

So I might have to silver spray it. But not sure I want spray when it can look tatty after a period of time. But it'll make life so much easier.

Search is on for some good looking product that will last

                      • Cheers Vince

I have seen you mention that but does it hold up? Presumably you also spray the gearbox etc with the same stuff? And would it need a clear coat?

If I don't get new headers I'm going to have to use some high temp stuff on those.

Ditched the plenum for now (it's pitted so a PITA) and moved onto the throttle body. I was going to entirely strip it but one of the cross-heads has stripped! Why use cross-head screws on an engine FFS. But the metal is much easier to clean.

Really want the effort to result in a showroom finish. Might beat me down though

                        • The wheel spray paint doesn't need a clear coat but won't harm the finish if a clear coat was applied, unlike those 'Chrome in a can' paints.

                          • Thanks Vince. I'll check out some good wheel paints

                            • Vince...will this paint you mention protect the Alu from corrosion?

I cleaned the throttle body to a decent point (want it cleaner) but even though it was fully dry it went chalky very quickly. Annoying as hell but hoping the spray job will keep it at bay.

Wanted to fully remove all parts from it but one of the heads stripped on the throttle cable part. My OCD is going to be tormented.

Also, are the bolts (various) easily sources? Loads of mine aint going back on in the state they're in

Just taken most of the bolt-ons off. Another mission of a clean up (camera makes them look cleaner)

                              Happy days!

Oh...and the power steering pump aint meant to be this colour, either!

Time to get the crank pulley off. Shame the "Universal" pulley holder doesn't fit! Should have gotten one with various pins. Will have to make one up tomorrow

                                Of course.
It's damp/condensation that makes the bare alloy go furry.

If I don't paint/polish them, I clean them with one of those 'soft' wire brush attachments in a high speed drill.
