Is there a small box attached to the steering column at the other end of those two wires on that plastic ring?

Does the ignition key have a chip in it?

Yep there is a small box screwed to the steering column at the other end of the wires.
Will check keys bit later when I'm back from the day job.

I've got an LS I need to break but don't have much space to store what I take off.

Based on what you've managed to sell, which bits should I prioritise?

Things like window motors, front and rear light units, dash clocks, heater controls (especially if the LCD screen still works as it should) CD changer, Leather seats (especially if they're grey or black) door mirrors, electric aerial, alloys/tyres.
Window motors can be used in Surfs.

Some times it sells well, other times not a snifter.

So far off the ls I have sold
The shiny door handles and shuts
The walnut dash bits
The power steering cooler pipe
The rear drop arms
The bumper
The front n/s shock
The calipers
The cruise controls bits
Sun visors
Clear indicator lenses
Driver side door lock
Just to mention a few
All I did was put an ad on eBay with "breaking" and my mobile number, done this about 3 times.

Update

So yesterday and today I got a fair bit done, removed the smelly oily lump from the surf, removed the gearbox and transfer case, cleaned up the engine bay, drilled and tapped the new bolt hole for the gearbox, cut the output shaft down(maybe 2mm too much!), cut the speed sensor and tapped in the 4mm holes for the grub screws,
Quick question for vince, should the speed sensor be as close to the blades as possible or is there a set distance ?

Use threadlock on the grub screws and don't block the tiny oil feed hole on the shaft.
