Good luck with the work. To answer your query ref the congestion charge and LPG vehicles being exempt. this is only the case when a manufacturer or a vehicle conversion specialist submits to and pays for Type Approval. There is a list on the TFL web site but after market converted vehicles are not exempt.

Indeed when I had my factory-installed at Ford during the build, Transit I had to get the van certified to say that it was factory installed as I didn't have the original paperwork when I bought it as a very second hand vehicle. In any case, congestion charge exemption was more than made up
for by the servicing costs of the lpg system.

I've had 3 LPG vehicles over the years and wouldnt have one installed, buy a vehicle with a system already installed by all means.

        just my 2p worth

having the lpg as well as petrol does give the extended range between fillups as well as being cheaper.

As long as you use the lexus ecu on the conversion (which I think you will need to control spark etc.) then a lexus lpg conversion should be fine, just make sure it's fitted by a competent & certified installer.

Other thing to consider on the surf is mounting of the lpg tank. if you have an underslung spare then a donut tank can go there, no prob. if you have a rear mounted spare then you are probably restricted to either a cylinder tank in the boot (takes up loads of space) or a couple of linked scuba type tanks inside the chassis rails (expensive)

had my current beastie nearly 2 years now and first thing I did was get it converted to lpg, nearly 23,000 miles later and it's paid for itself and no loss of power
        I'm not overweight, I'm undertall!

Why can't you have a doughnut tank with a rear mounted spare? I always thought the actual space was still there underneath the truck where the wheel would have been?

Bookmarked! Hope there is some VVTi bits in there!

Edit: VVTi Wiring diagrams, Vince, I actually love you a bit.

Interesting that you say LPG is no good outside of a Lexus... A mate of mine is building a 1UZ LPG bowler, his mate does proper LPG installs, and builds 1UZ off road racers, a fair few of these run LPG. Infact my mate called me the other day from his workshop and I could hear them dyno tuning a LPG 1UZ off roader in the background

I believe his kits use their own stand alone ECU though, I can ask more if there is interest..

I was thinking of LPGing mine at some point. A couple of tube type canisters linked up under the boot floor (where the underslung spare would be, along with a compressed air tank ) Definitely a Stage 3 or 4 plan, stage 1 being the actual transplant.

No, still living in Naples, prob for another year. Never even seen a LS 400 here (or a surf for that matter). Would definitely like to do it still, but knowing my luck it'll be half finished when we need to move back to the UK.

EDIT - just noticed I need to change my location!
