    Nope.
Is it an in-line six? If it is it won't fit without serious modifications to get the radiator in.

yer its an in-line 6, we know there is going to be modification needed. the boss is very good at modifications and says he can do it just wondered if there was a previous attempt to give an idea of whats involved

Never heard of the swap before.
I imagine it's a very heavy lump of iron to be shoe-horning into a Surf though, the 2.4 engine is heavy enough!

but with the increased capacity would that not be more than enough to make up for the extra weight?

More power + more weight which means the suspension and braking will suffer, so thats two more areas that'll need upgrading.

Why a diesel engine swap anyway?

I was thinking of the weight rather than the power too. I imagine it will cause all sorts of handling issues with that amount of weight further forward than the normal engine.

                Kin ell!
Why fit a bus lump in a surf? It might be too wide, let alone too long.

its a very narrow engine. no wider than the 2.4. i will be putting the manual gearbox from the bus in aswell which is only 18 inches long and 11 inches wide so thats alot of weight lost from the auto box.

The Optimo has the same engine as the old big Landcruiser, will do a million miles without breaking a sweat - GREAT CHOICE OF ENGINE

Not all of them. Only the later variants had a straight six the early ones were smaller.

All 60 series, some 70 series and ALL 80 series had 6 cylinder diesel engine.
60series stopped production in 1989, 80 series stopped in 1997, 70s began production in 1984......... so they are OLD landcruisers, only thing older will be a 40/50 series which used 3.4 litre 4 pot and some 5 pot mercedes diesel engines.

So "old big Landcruiser" did have 6 cylinder diesels, optimo/ceatano use a Toyota 1HZ 4.2 litre S6 engine.

What ever, it still won't fit in a Surf's engine bay.
