Well..engines out (of the truck), after only 2hrs Kip last night.. it's been a bit of a vague afternoon to say the least. With lashings of assistance from Matt (cheers dude) we finally slipped it out(more like dragged kicking and screaming), sure i went about it the hard way..but hey, why make life easy.
Gonna tidy it all up now, drop the tank and get ready to do it all again with the Lex'
As is normally the case where i'm concerned, I'm digressing a little..the engine is going to take a back seat for a while. Been looking at the empty bay and all that IFS junk and decided it would be a good idea to swap the axle whilst i'm at it.
I had planned to do it next yr, but would probably be a lot more hassle working around the engine.
Downside with that is money.! Can't afford to do everything imminently so it's going to take time. Hopefully get it 'all' done before MOT time in may so i can shake it down before test.
@ Cal' i know it's probably bad timing, but I'll give you 1st refusal on the Aussie locked front diff' Not priced it proper yet, but it'll be around £250-300.

At least I have something to get my teeth into. Gonna strip and rebuild this, then pull the engine from the Lex'..and sort whatever needs sorting with that.
Now where did i put that plasma-cutter..bye, bye IFS
Glad to see it taking it shape, hehe do you happen to have about 7.5ltrs of space in your waste oil bucket? would like to get the oil replace this month oh and maybe some correction on the torsion bars on that perfectly flat bit of concrete at the back of yours

hi nick glad to see its going well and putting on the solid front axel! like to see a good detailed write up so i can do it one day! hehe so is the lexus on hold or you doing the wiring in your spare spare time? well if need any help or how not to do it! give us a shout!
Lex is sorta on hold yea..got till the end of Feb when the tax is up. Im gonna concentrate on the axle as soon as i get some more funds. Having to buy tools and stuff for making the mounts etc.
Was gonna get the SAS bits from trail-gear in the states, IFS eliminator kit, cro-molly axle shafts & 5.29 CW & pinions.
Came in @ around $2k for that lot, then i got the shipping quote.. $1500! Factor in some import duty and tax and you're into over $4k..ouch
So back to the drawing board again..
Hi why not do what i have done in the past ie: source all the parts you want hopfully all in the same area fly over buy a day van put all you stuff in the back ship the day van back you only pay duty on the van not what is inside, then sell the van and you should make some profit which comes of the price of the parts. Plus you get a little holiday thrown in works every time.
i had to pay £18 on a water pump and timing belt kit but no import duty asked for on coils, leads, plugs dizzy caps and rotors. i've bought a lot of stuff from the us and it seems a bit hit or miss on the import duty.
i guess if you're lucky the guy n the duty counter just gets lazy.
i bought a carpet set and leather seat covers about 2 years ago from the us - carpet was £21 duty and the seats 0 duty.
i also bought a lot of snap on gear when it was 2 dollars to the pound, again some i paid duty and others none.
