cant seem to find any vents with water traps will keep looking

also thinking of adding the gas struts to the bonnet does anyone know if i can pinch these off another car at the scrap if so what assuming length is the critical thing also may be doing the rook bar mod

Just type......Bonnet vents.........into the search box on Ebay, there's usually a few on there. Make sure you get both parts to each vent, there's the part that sits on top of the bonnet, and the other part that bolts to it from underneath.

GTE or GSI vents, either ones will work.
Sierra Cosworth or Fiesta RS vents will look OK on a Surf too.

but really want to let some of the heat out i still also have the covering on the underside of the bonnet so will more than likely have to remove this will i notice much increase in noise

cheers and keep up the good work

You will need to fit rain catchers or some kind of deflectors so water doesn't drown any electrical connectors, but if you get genuine bonnet vents from an Astra GTE for example, they have water drain off sections that you fit to the underside of them anyway.

Removing the cover from under the bonnet doesn't make engine noise any louder, but the bonnet will become a heatsink top disperse under bonnet heat. It doesn't so hot that you can fry an egg on it though, so the paint isn't affected.

Another thing you can do to let engine heat out quicker is to pull off the rubber 'skirts' between the chassis rails and the inner wings.
