No, it's just removing the troublesome vacuum side of the operation.
    Shift-on-the-fly still works.

The standard set-up has the front diff and driver's side CV shaft turning all the time, even when in 2wd. The vacuum system just slides the collar across to connect the passenger side shaft.

Manual (free wheeling) hubs are advisable, but not strictly necessary, to eliminate any driveline drag, which decreases mpg cause by the front diff, but the drag shouldn't be any more apparent than it was before.

So to summerise, 4wd can now be engaged and more directly and without having to drive forwards or reverse to disengage it when the vacuum actuator sticks.

    • So the button on the stick engages not just the transfer box to put drive to the front but also engages the front passenger side drive shaft.
And your just removing the possibility of failure of the actuator on the diff.

                  • It's been cleaned and sprayed I thought, you know with the over spray on the wooden stool and the dust cloths over the bench and the open windows in shot?

                    Looks awsome though.

                    Really nice work.

This one needs to be perfect as it's going to be the benchmark for any future conversions I do.
