Hi Danny, Hiroler is keeping the Surf dash in his.

With mine, I chopped and fiberglassed/filled the Lexus binacle into the Surf's dash then I'll eventually cover it all with black alcatera type material.

              • Danny, how did you get on with the steering damper mod?
                Here's what I did on Hiroler's truck......

A piece of angle iron, wide enough to accept a couple of 35mm exhaust clamps and the balljoint end of the damper, to attach to the relay rod....

Then a hole drilled in the piece that hangs down from the chassis rails (Dunno what their purpose is!) for the other end of the damper.

Cut off the damper mount off the relay rod.....

                Fit damper in place...

Works fine and doesn't foul the sump!

                • Looks good thanks for the pics! i havent done that yeah but i was thinking of using that 'useless piece' hanging down if possible so i will do what you have done. i was going to ask where you put the oil reloc kit after looking at the pic of the ross's engine bay and the existing air filter was where the oil filter would go now i see whats it fixed to exactly?

have taken bit of slow turn as got chucked out of the work shop i was in so had to concentrate on getting the mounts in so now on drive and weather like it is cant do much.

i have done the wiring kept all of the existing wiring so can go back to diagram if needed! just got new relays and fuse holders. i am going for the post ignition key and creating new engine ign guage EFI fuses think its all going to go in the glove box? just tap into IG1 ST2 IG2 on barrel? just need to tap into AM1 for the EFI. kept all wiring from IH2 for dash and IH 1-3 for engine

with getting the different manifolds i have to make a flange piece and pipe to go between the manifold and Cat like below link. got all piping to plumb the engine and just need to fit fuel pump to tank then fire up

I welded a piece of flat bar to the front cross member and bolted the filter head to that. See pic below.

You don't need any of the cats, as long as you keep the main 02 sensors in the manifolds, thats all the ECU needs.

Only problem I have now is getting the Surf's speedo to work!

                    • like it seems every bit of the engine bay has been used!

i was wondering about the cats and the emissions for the MOT and V5C because the engine originally had cats now we are taking them off just a grey area and needed some clarification as dont want to retro fit them if needed and redesign the exhaust system.

it seems when the rubber seal on the speed sensor is flush with the outside of the housing is a rough guide to how far you stick it in otherwise the bit on the shaft would cut it to bits when it spins around? is that what you found? i am dredding trouble shooting when i get the electrics up and running!

                      • Mine has passed the MOT twice now re; emmisions.
It passes OK if the emmisions fall within certain parameters.
Mine only just passed the first MOT, but after fitting new main 02 sensors, it was well within the limit at the second MOT.

                        • cool well will leave them out! have got new sensors as needed to get the screw in ones for the new manifold. that saves a bit of work!

                          • few pics just to update you all. been on the wiring as i have to resort to proper backyard mechaincs after having to get out the workshop i was in as the owner needed
the space back so im back on the drive with limited tools in the snow! not much to do to turn the engine over put in fuel pump, plumb engine and finish wiring.
then if OK put the surf back together! & new exhaust system.

below is the iginiton part of the loom and the dash, have kept / cut most of the original wiring so can use the wiring diagrams if need to trouble shoot!

have kept to the engine control diagram and will attach wires to IGN 1& 2 and ST2 and have new relays for the EFI and starter will need new relay for the fuel pump too

below are the FSM wiring manual diagrams which actuall y are quite accurate with the wires matching the colours and connectors they should be in!

this is the master diagram only really need the left hand part as the right is the wiring within the engine
