What auto transmission fluid dextron 2/3

Hi went to buy some atf fluid and wanted Dexron II ATF fluid but could only find Dexron 3 can this be used instead ?Thanks.

I'm fairly sure the answer is no - it has to be Dexron II

oh I thought DIII could be used instead of DII (in most cases). Mines got DIII in it.

It's not often I'm wrong, but..... I'm sure I'd read somewhere that you had to use DII in Toy auto boxes, but then I've just looked up a Castrol data sheet that says DIII is fully compatible with earlier Dexron oils. So it looks like it's ok to use DIII

Saw some today in the local MotorWorld marked as ATF Dexron II

Did a bit of research (cause I am sad) and to be Dexron III standard it has to be backward compatible. So yep you can use it.
