blue smoke when warm.

after taking the surf for a swim before xmas it seems to be a little unwell.
it starts and runs with normal oil pressure when cold, but once upto temperature there is some blue smoke from the exhaust and the oil pressure drops to nothing.
if it is stopped when warm and you try to start it again the starter motor does not seem to have the power to turn the engine over, but after being left for half an hour will once again turn the engine and start it.
the oil has not turned milky and is still at the usual level, and does not feel overly thin.
i have put a block tester on the cooling system and it did not detect any exhaust gases in the coolant, and the coolant level is still normal and looks clean.
i have dropped the fuel out and emptied the fuel filter and it does not seem to have got any water in the fuel system. something strange but probably unrelated, when i removed the fuel filter, fuel seemed to gurgle out of the filter housing and the filter was only half full.
any advice on what i should check next or possible causes of my problems would be greatly appreciated or feel free just to take the pi55

Very tempting.
Blue smoke is oil.
Could just be a blocked breather hose.
Or the engine is fcuked.
You do not say how old the oil is.

How deep was the water?
Did you have a snorkel fitted at the time!

the oil is about 6 months old but the truck only gets used for off road now so has probably only been used for about 20 hours.
the water was upto the windows, i did have a snorkel but the engine still stopped after it being submerged for a couple of minutes.

Do you have the kit to compression test the engine?

i have access to a gauge but dont have the fitting for the 1kzte was thinking of machining 1 from an old glow plug unless they are cheap to get?

£40 at this point in time is worth spending an hour on the lathe. assuming you do use the glow plug holes for the compression test on these engines?

ok, just a thought could a screwed turbo cause too much back pressure, meaning the starter motor does not have enough power to turn the engine over?
obviously the drop in oil pressure could be caused by the turbo.
im just hoping i dont need to do any open heart surgery on the poor old thing

The turbo won't affect starting.

Have you had the glowplugs out and cranked the engine over to see if any water puffs out the holes?
Could be hydrolocked.
Have you drained the oil to see if any water is in there?

the engine still runs, it is only if i run it up to temperature then turn it off and try to start it straight away that the starter can not turn it over, after it is left for about 30 minutes it will then turn over again and start without a problem.
the oil was fine, i swapped it out earlier this week.
the only things i can think of that would cause the engine not to turn over when warm are;
it is nipping up because of heat, but why would it when it is not actually overheating and surely this would damage the bores making it run worse each time it happens?
or
the starter motor is a w****er, but why would it only be a problem just after turning the truck off?

on a side note i have tried several different pairs of batteries on the truck with the same result, just to make sure the batteries are not the problem

a quick update!
i swapped the turbo out today as on investigation the end play was "slightly" excessive.
i have also pulled the starter off and it is very stiff and notchy so i will be rebuilding that as well.
the oil pressure is still low when the truck is at temperature it sits between the bottom of the white when revd and in the black before the white on idle.
is there any common causes of low oil pressure with the 1kzte?
do the pressure sensor regularly cause problems?

Fully and semi-synthetic engine oils give a low pressure reading.

its running on nasty old mineral oil.
do the oil pumps fail often?
or could it be a sticky pressure relief valve?
