  • ECU repair?

    Hi All
I just wondered if anyone can point me in the right direction to pick up a replacement ECU for my KZN130. It failed to start last night, no glow plug light, no engine check light. It cranks over but will not fire up. Called the RAC out but no luck. He said no power is going to the glow plug relay. All fuses have been checked. He suspected the ECU.
My Question is, does anyone know if I can get my ECU tested / repaired? if not, where is the best place to pick a replacement up
    Thanks in advance
    Dave

I've heard good things about this place:

    http://www.the-ecu-doctor.co.uk

    But they're not cheap.

You might get lucky & someone on here might have a spare (that's how I got mine).

    There is one on ebay:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TOYOTA-HIL...-/111267337321

    Good luck...

Where the fuses behind the kick panel checked as well?
There's a fuse marked ECU/IG. That fuse is for the ECU power.

Yes my wife googled ECU repair and they came up. Thanks for that.
I looked at the one on ebay, but its £150. I think I would rather pay that sort of money for a repair and know its been bench tested.
        But thanks for your help.

When I looked into it, average price from ECU doctor seemed to be £200.

So, unless you find a second hand one much cheaper, I'd agree with you. You never know how long a second hand one will last.

When I'm feeling flush, I'm going to send my old one away, just so I have a spare ready to go

I'm still not convinced it's the ECU, they don't just suddenly stop working, it'll go into failsafe mode first.

Do all the usual dash lights come on with the ignition?

Hi Trunks, yes that's a good idea. I may keep an eye on ebay and see if I can pick one up for about £50.00 max if I am lucky. I have emailed the ECU doctor to arrange repair. Yes it is going to cost about £200. but it also has a years warranty with it.
This truck has never let me down for the two years I have owned it, it really is the dogs *** . I have towed, carried building materials for my sons house renovations, my daughter /son in law + 3 kids borrow it to go camping, and I use it every day to go to work so I cant complain. I just wish I had discovered the Surf earlier.

                Hi Bushwacker.
Yes all the other lights come up except engine check and the Glow plug light.
It cranks over really well as I put two new batteries on a couple of months ago.

Yes, Thanks Trunks, that's why I decided to see if I am getting power to the ecu. I am not electrically minded. I have a multi meter that I just checked one side of the ECU-IG Fuse connector that Bushwkaker mentioned and it shows 11.8 volts. But with the ignition on and all three plugs out of the ECU I could not find any power from the plugs. But as I said, I am no auto electrician and a multimeter is alien to me.

                            Open this PDF file.....
                            http://toyotasurf.asn.au/techsite/do...NIN-PINOUT.pdf

and skip to pages 8 and 9. You should have constant ECU power (Ignition on and off) at connector 'A' pin/wire number one.

I've used the ECU Doctor and would recommend him whole heartedly
From what I remember, he charges £30 or so, to diagnose and if faulty, and you have it repaired, this is deducted from the final bill.

                              Regards

                              Mark
