Finally got round to stripping front end down. Shocks off, that was fun with a hacksaw blade!!!! and noticed Flexi hose split and piston dust seals defo split.

Got pads out etc but how do you get the pipes free, stopped swinging on spanner as I can feel the nut starting to round off . Had a wire brush on them and plenty of penetrating oil over the last couple of days.
Roughtrax must love me with the orders.

Got six weeks to rebuild front, change head etc before setting off to get married......

If you mean the brake pipe nut then you might as well cut it off at the end and crack it off with a socket. Less chance of you rounding it off than you do with a spanner. Last thing you want is it stuck inside the caliper.

...or buy a brake pipe spanner perhaps...

I didn't know such a tool existed. I will buy one of those if I put my new calipers on. I would still put new pipes on if I had the means to do it.

I've just had to replace one of my front calipers on my KZN130, is there a market for used calipers ? (1 seized piston).

Don't have time to re-furb it myself but would rather it went to someone who had the time, rather than going in the bin.

              Got there.
Calipers finally off, a few dust covers are split, hope pistons aren't seized.
A lot of dark oil drained out when I got all the oil out of the calipers.

I thougt now was a good time to change the top and bottom ball joints that popped up on the MOT. Top ball joint castle nut loose, circlip off and dust cover retainer off..... How do i get them apart?

I have a support under lower joint and been tapping the top castle nut as a dfrift to knock it and try to loosen it. It has had copious amounts of WD over the week whilst taking everything else off. Even had a big bar between top bone and hub carrier to try and get the top part free. Am I missing an easy solution.
I can see bottom joint going to garage to change.

              Thanks.

                  Hi.
Will have to look at physical size of them. Looks like it will get bolt out of top wishbone. Not sure if it will press it out of hub carrier though. Didn't really want to put a torch to it.

Just noticed now that the price has gone up to £299 for the same calipers at J & R. That's some price rise from £99!!

I don't suppose you have a pic of the bit that's a problem, just in case I'm miss reading your post...

I have a BJ fork and a pair of hands if you still need help. I found my track rod BJ's were megga stuck but The fork and a big hammer bust them off.

Attached are the pictures of the ball joint. And if I tackle the lower joint I will also need to split theTR joint as well.
Might just give you a bell over the next couple of days Rob.

Two hammers (normally one will suffice) are all you need to get a balljoint off. If you must use a splitter, don't use a forked one, they're dangerous (especially the cheaper ones) and ruin the balljoint.

Most bad, self taught or DIY mechanics will think forked splitters are fine; professional mechanics won't touch one. On the very odd occasion where it's been too tight to swing a hammer properly, I've used a clamp type splitter to put a bit of tension on the joint; then whacked it with a hammer to split it.
