  • Cut out, now wont start

Popped out in the truck at the weekend, got a few miles up the road and as i backed off the throttle for a roundabout the engine cut out. Managed to pull over, put it in park but it wouldnt start for the first few attempts. When it did i put it in drive and it cut out straight away. Tried again and slowly went through the box to drive all ok for a mile or so then it cut out again. Took a few attempts to start again but managed to get back home.
When i get a min ill do the fault code check but is there anything else i should be inspecting or does anyone have an idea of the fault? Cheers Pete.

Check the primer pump on top of the fuel filter is working, it should get progressively harder to press down after a few pumps. (Engine on or off)

Cheers for the reply, just realised i meant to say it wouldnt turn over instead of wouldnt start so thinking its got to be electrical. Tried a few time on the drive to start it but still no life? There was no warning light on the dash when it did cut out?

Check the battery connections are secure.

Did the engine make any unusual noises before it cut out?

Connections are tight but when i get 5mins ill remove terminals and clean for peace of mind, along with any earthing points. I didnt even realise the engine had cut out until i tried to steer round the corner with no power steering
Thanks for the advice, ill do the above and report back.

Surfs have plastic inserts inside the battery cable clamps that prevent them from clamping tightly to the terminal posts. The nut can feel tight but the actual clamp can still be loose.
They can be tight enough to enable the dash lights to come on with the ignition, but not tight enough to engage the starter motor.

              So is the battery dead?
              Will it turn over?

If yes and no, start looking at the alternator. Mine didn't show any lights untill it had drained all the juice out the battery.

No it wouldnt turn over, had the dash lights though. Will test the batteries, clean terminals and earths etc at the weekend.
Do surfs come with an electric aerial as i can normally hear a noise when turning the cd player on/off? Did also hear this noise when trying to start the truck?
Will throw up what i find at the weekend, cheers for the help.

Yeh, electric aerials. That'll be that noise, I reckon.

Right so ive checked both batteries, spot on. Tried doing a fault code check by bridgeing the W+E1 terminals and nothing is flashing on dash; this was done with ignition on and o/d on so light is not illuminated. Am i doing something wrong?? Gonna start cleaning earths now...
Im dreading the ecu has shat itself

E1 + TE1 need to be bridged to make the CEL flash.

Right im getting nowhere with this bugger, found this wiring diagram but its for a kzn185, is it different from the kzn130 as i cant match the wire colours?

After it had sat for two months the truck started. I removed the batteries, charged them and cleaned up the posts and terminals. I cleaned the earths I could see in the engine bay and started her up again. Its charging fine so took for a spin round the area; everything seemed ok. Went out in it last week to my stables 12 miles away, again drove perfect. End of the day went to start it now nothing. Had the centre console up and the safety switch in park was working but when you go to crank the only thing that happened was the clock display disappeared? My dad fiddled with a few things and now the safety switch also has stopped working. Has anyone had a problem like this?
