Speedo died recently and O/D lamp flashing.
In line with advice on old threads, I have removed Vehicle Speed Sensor from transfer box and bench tested it with multimeter ..... ouput from terminal #3 is ranging from 0 to 0.7 ish Volts, as I move the white plastic cog.
An old thread advises that this should be 0 to 9V fluctuation but I am unclear whether a knackered VSS would only give out a zero reading, while any other output means it is working.
Also while bench testing, does the plastic cog need to be spun at a speed to test the voltage output or is it sufficient to just spin it through your fingers.
I haven't resorted to taking the clocks apart yet, as I don't want to waste effort if everything points to a faulty VSS. Can anyone advise me please??
Also, while removing the VSS from T/Case, about two 'eggcupfulls' of oily substance came out of the hole .... it was beige colour. I have read that some say Gearbox Oil and some say ATF should go into the T/Case.
I don't know what ATF looks like so I am not sure what I have in my T/Case. Do I need to top up/change the lubricant and if so where is the fill point for this please ??
Finally, if my VSS in knackered .... does anyone have one they could sell me?
(3.0L Auto KZN185 with 1KZ-TE engine if this matters).
