It could be the radiator, flushing them won't clear it properly if it's choked, it'll merely clear a path through it.
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

Thanks for the reply. Any easy way to test this?

Take it to a radiator specialist and have them take the headers off and look, or replace it.

          Thanks again.

Would it be worth checking the water pump?

Also, would the new head have been damaged if it went to 100 on the test run?

Pumps rarely break, apart from seal leaking or bearing going.

100 isn't a problem under load or up hills, thats not even in the red zone, its about 3/4 hot on gauge on mine, but under the red bit.

Split your viscous fan hub, and put lots of 5-7000 or higher CST silicone oil in it, and give it another go.

If this dosn't fix it then think about a new rad, they get blocked easily, and you can't clean them withouty splitting it apart.

Is this the same stuff used in radio controlled cars?

                something like this?

                      Hindsight can be a b*stard!

I've just read through all the Lexurf conversions and I see it is possible to swap into 185! Would seriously have considered this instead of repair!

                      Arrrgh!

Mech has only now had the chance to get back on to working on her.

Says that the cambelt was loose even though he'd tightened it all up.

New tensioner and idler pulley on order.

Could this have caused the initial over heating that lead to the cracked head?

                          She's all sorted!

In the end I replaced the:

                          Head
                          Thermostat
                          Radiator
                          Water Pump
                          Viscous Fluid
                          Idler Pulley
                          Tensioner

My Bank manager has called to check if my card was stolen! But still worth it in the end! At least I know I have her all sorted out and I know the health of the cooling system!

Can't wait co go and collect and get offroad again!
