I have read a few articles on the forum relating to headlight removal but always found it difficult to locate the botton grill attachments so I did mine today and took photos. Hope this helps.
This pic shows the locations of the grill attachment points. Top ones are easy to get at with the bonnet up but the bottom ones are a little bit fiddley as they are hidden between the bottom of the grill and the top of the bumper. Just use a long thin screw driver to get at the two center ones...they are about 4" back and the outer ones, under the headlights, are a bit easier.
Firstly remove the side lights. Unscrew the two self tappers and ease the side light forwards and off. The sidelights have to come off as they have two tabs top and bottom which locate into the sides of the grill.
Then go round the 11 attachment points shown above and release the little black connectors. Now I know you want to be careful and try not to break them but Ive read so many times on the forum its virtually impossible to remove them without breaking the little tikes! so I didn't bother.... I just jabbed and poked them until they broke. Live with it and cable tie the grill back on at the end. Or buy new ones from Toyota. Heres a pic of the top ones.
I tell lies......Here's one black clip intact
And here it is broken...told ya.
and one under the H/Light
Once grill is off remove 4 x 10mm bolts to remove headlamp, unclip connector to bulb and fit new unit.
When removing the headlight I found it was attached in one corner by an alingment spigot. Just give it a sharp tug and it will come out.
Fit grill back on and secure with cable ties as shown. Refit side lights and dont forget to check the headlight beam alingment. The replaced h/light beam was way higher so I adjusted it by the adjustment screws on the h/light unit. (Blue arrow)
job done.
