Its all off in 2wd, then it all flashes as any 4wd mode is selecting, the wheels light up green in H4, then the wheels and the center light light up in H4L and L4L.

You can drive a multi-mode 3rd Gen on the road in H4 without troubles, so if it is stuck, its stuck in H4L with the center diff lock stuck maybe.

It might make a small noises when parking or manouvering on smooth surfaces in H4, but shouldn't make any noises in H2.
it would help to know if it was stuck in H4L or H4! wish those darn dash lights worked! So best not to drive it then? when parking on any sort of steering lock the wheels drag like buggery! So take it that it is stuck in H4L.
Off to garage we go then. How do you get the front off the dash to check the 4wd lights????? bet some dishonest person has removed the bulbs!

You can get to the dash quite easily, there are screws in top of the black surround, and take the lower panels around the steeering wheel off to get at 2 bottom screws.

Then 4 crews hold dash in, and you can unplug it and get it out.

To see what mode its in, jack the front wheels up, in H2 you should find the front prop turns easily on its own, and each wheel will spin on its own. In H4 the front prop will feel fixed (its not locked to rear like in H4L, but you'll strugggle to turn it by hand usually), and the front wheels will both spin when you turn one.

If you mess around for a while, you'll have to have the engine running to keep the vacuum up for the ADD stuff to keep working.

so would i be able to unlock the stuck 4wd this way? what is ADD is it the drive that allows for interchange between 2 and 4wd?

Sorry, ADD is the mechanisum that slides a collar over one of the front driveshafts to join them after the t/case has selected 4wd, its what lets you switch to 4wd at speed without things going bang. lol.

Not sure you can unlock it, if its not come out by now while going backwards and forwards it probably is being held on by the truck and whatever has broken.

But you can remove the front prop shaft, that will let you use it with no problems till you find out whats going on.

If its with Stevo then it will be like a new truck after.
What sort of value was the truck for the car and did you have to pay much towards the truck

Stevo hasn't got it yet cant afford to pay for the transporter fees. Already have to pay Toyota for the knowledge they have imparted!
We had to pay an additional £500 for the truck + our car in PX. Total was £3500.
Its a lovely truck just wish I had got someone who knew about it to check it out before purchase but guy had other parties interested and needed to sell our car.

sorry, but what the autobox got to do with the 4wd issues? always get second opinions, I recently fixed a bodged transfer case a 3rd Gen for next to nothing after a Main Dealer had told them they needed a new one and quoted £2000, and just fixed McKirdy Services's 3rd Gen thats been in 3 different garage for 18months that was only a broken switch on the solonoid.

rear coils are only £60 a pair for uprated ones...

It doesnt know what gear it is in the actuator has gone and the 4wd either doesnt work or it the only drive working or is stuck or something. This is what the dealer has said. But we are getting it up to Stevo asap to get him to take a look.

                              Poop, shame you're not nearer.

Stevo won't stitch you up, fingers crossed its just a silly switch thats broken like usual, the hardest bit normally is re-timing everything after someones popped the lid off and got it all out of sync.
