Symptoms: flashing 4WD light on dash
Investigation: found the breather pipe from the 4WD engagement motor unit had come off and water had got into the unit. Plenty of aluminium oxide corrosion and the grease had gone all gunky stopping the circular tracks/contacts from working.
Problem:The rotating gear came out and I did not mark it's position/orientation. Replacing it anywhere results in all sorts of strange clunks and lack of drive and more flashing 4WD lights.
Solution: get the truck in 2WD, so the front prop shaft is free to turn. If you put the wheel back in wrong then this will take some experimenting to get it back into 2WD. Then set the wheel in the position shown in the attached photo.
Hopefully the lights will stop flashing and you will be OK to engage 4WD.
Hope this helps anyone who made the mistakes I did and it will hopefully reduce the amount of swearing and frustration.
