  • Key turning problem (Help)

Went into Tesco to fill up with diesel, and had one hell of a problem getting the key to turn in the ignition. It's as if the steering lock was on, eventually got it going, got home took the key out and then reinserted the key, same problem.

Squirt with WD40, left for a couple of hours, went outside to try again, and took about 5 Min's to get the key to turn.

Any ideas or fixes would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure the gear stick is going into Park properly - you can't start the car otherwise. Sometimes a nudge on the stick is all it needs

Thanks guys, Must get another key made up..........Only got one.

Will see how it goes tomorrow morning , after soaking in WD40 all night.

If it wasn't in park the key wouldn't come out, so that solution is out

Does the key work in the tailgate and doors? If yes, key probably OK and ignition barrel failing....

is it a key you had cut??? if it is it could just need shaping abit better!! but she same key should fit door's ignition and tailgate, the other option is you have a new lock on the tailgate

The WD40 must have done the trick, because I have had no problems at all today.

I too thought I might have to get another ignition barrel if the WD40 didn't work

I just have the key it came with.........Been meaning to get another cut for ages, must pop into my local Auto bitz.

                Many thanks for your help
