  • HIGH oil pressure?

The motor has sounded a bit more rattly than usual this weekend (tappety type noise) so figured I need to do an oil change.

However, would this lead to higher than usual oil pressure too? I was thinking oil filter a bit cr@ppy or suchlike as I do two oil changes to one filter normally.

Is a filter and oil change likely to cure my ills or do any horror stories spring to mind?

If the filter is blocked it could show high pressure, but there is a bypass valve (normally!!) in the filter so you still get oil flow, albeit unfiltered. But I don't know if it would show up on the gauge, depends how big the bypass valve is.

I'd try a new filter and oil first, maybe buy some proper flushing oil as you may have moved some gunk around and half blocking an oilway that will make the pressure back up.

If this doesn't fix it then you can worry.

Totally agree with what Tony has said, but there is also a possibility of a faulty guage/sender worth checking before planning any major surgery

nowt to do with oil though!!
i'd go with the flushing oil and then new oil and a filter change

Another one of my 'to do' items, fit a capillary type oil pressure gauge.

Never been a fan of them just in case the pipe breaks , on my boat engine I just made sure I had an accessable union I could measure the pressure at, and kept the electrical guage for safety and convenience.

Tis not hugely high, just sits near the top of the centre bit when on the gas and about centre otherwise, where it usually sits about centre on the gas. I guess I'm just being a bit paranoid.

                Wots the procedure for flushing?

I did mine last week and used the method Nev suggested. Drain the oil, replace
with some bog standard oil and run the engine for a quarter of an hour, giving
it a few revs occasionally. Drain that off and replace the oil and filter properly.
The temporary cleaning oil came out black.

Anyone got a source for flushing oil? Halfrauds used to do it but I haven't seen any in our local branch for ages and I want to do mine the next time I do an oil change, especially as I'm now using Roughtrax supplied filters instead of Milners.
