  • Throttle body Oil Weepage

I have noticed that the 1993 KZN130 that I bought recently, for my wife, seems to be weeping/breathing oil from the lower joint of the throttle body and from the throttle valve spindle. My own 1995 KZN130 is dry as a bone at these locations.

Wondered if anyone knows why it is doing this?

When I picked the vehicle up from Blanford Forum the engine oil level was a little high. When I followed my wife home to Cornwall I did notice black smoke from the exhaust when it was under load.

I have recently changed the oil, oil filter and fuel filter and found the air filter was way over due for renewal. I'm wondering if the blocked air filter and slightly over full engine oil could cause the throttle body leakage and black smoke.

The oil is from the breather pipe that comes from the rocker cover and re-enters the intake ducts. The oil vapour condenses and lays in the ducting and eventually weeps out.
Remove the intake ducting from the air filter to the turbo and from the turbo to the intake manifold and give them a clean out.

      Thanks Bushwacker.

I wondered because my own motor is dry at these points. Is it necessary to replace the throttle body gaskets or can they be re-used?

I would replace it, but it's not really necessary to remove the throttle body, just give it a wipe out with a rag. It's worth replacing the original hose clips for the air intake ducting though, as the factory ones are weakend after removal and don't seem tight enough when they're re-fitted.
