  • Niggly problems,aerials and stuff

Just bought 96N SSR-X Manual from Autoserv at Selby I used to have a bog-standard Brit Forerunner with no frills,my new machine has all the trimmings including those side window thingys 1.How do you stick them back on ?and wot with? 2. my electric aerial has the sound of a manic coffee grinder andhas given up the will to live ,are they expensive and are they easy to fit ?On the whole the truck is a sound unit in a sort of pastel blue with silver grey panels on the doors etc. Does anybody have any tips on underbody treatment ? when I inspected it it was clean as a whistle but the roads of south yorkshire are now 2inches deep in salt n grit. Excellent site by the way !

Hi John, not to sure how you would stick the wind deflectors back on, but you could check out Roughtrax for a new electric aerial, they can sell you the whole thing or just a replacment mast.
    Good luck--------Nosher

just hose the salt residue off once a week, then when the weather gets warmer, give it a good dose of waxoyl...i'll be doing mine this year, three winters overdue, and its starting to show.

Thanx Nosher I knew they had a 'technical name' !Apparently (according to the garage valeter) I can stick them on with double sided sticky tape or use a Bostik glue gun ! not sure if I like the glue gun bit ? and would you believe it ? the garage have offered to fix the aerial 'under warranty'! i'm not holding my breath though

          thanx again mate

Keith,as you can tell by my thicko approach, my technical knowledge is 'limited' (to say the least) is it the old Ziebart underseal that we used to get over on the continent? As you can most likely tell , this is my first 'grey Import' having owned many other types I am struggling to get to grips with a bit of diy. Autoserv are at Selby and I am at Doncaster so I don't really want to rely on the 15 mile journey unless no option !
Thanx for your prompt reply ! you guys are a mine of excellent information !

Mickey, did you get three years out of your Waxoyl tratment ? the garage told me it didn't do the job !The garage 'expert' (valeter) told me to take it to the local Truck garage and spray it with spent gear oil !!! maybe not ?
I have a '3 month warranty' with the vehicle' do you think it will be worth owt ?
              Thanx again

welcome to the madhouse - nice to have another Doncaster surfer.

I bought my surf in Thorne (the good garage not the cowboy) and they undersealed (waxoiled) it for me for £85. Apparently it's a bugger of a job in the cold as the wax isn't very runny & it's well messy as well.

Looks just the job and told it should last a couple of years

no, i didn't get three years out of my waxoyl...cause i never got it done no, its been running on an untreated chassis, and its beginning to show the ravishes of a uk winter or two...actually, three.

waxoyl is the treatment of choice for most of the pro outfits...you need to have a clean chassis, and mask up the exhaust pipe..keep it away from the brakes too..to have the job done really well, with guarantee will set you back a few hundred quid...but it is thorough..they use a special moisture dispersing spray used in the military for getting the underside of sea harriers clean, and bone dry...then they put black waxoyl on the chassis, and clear in the engine department and behind the doors etc..but it should be good for 5 years..

the waxoyl, and pump spray is available at halfords, you can get some various attatchments for getting it into the box section..personally, i'll be waiting for a warm, and dry day..then tackling it myself..might touch up the tarnish with hammerite first, but it probably won't be neccessary..warm the tin up first, and it should flow just fine..some of the guys on the forum have diluted it with thinners, but i can't recal wether it was considered to be a wise option or not.probably a messy job, but hey..it'll be covered well when i'm done..probably i'll be too..

lucky I got mine just before the winter set in,,,had the underside steam cleaned and the bought a gallon of waxoil for £15.00 from the local factors and used a oil sprayer,, ( keep the waxoil in the house for 24hrs, it does go thick when cold) and gave it 2 heavey coats,,fantastic job ,,
will do it again next October,,,chassis is still in mint condition

Now I am intrigued ! Who could the cowboy Be? I called at one garage with a Key in it where a rather tall gentleman tried to sell me a 3ltr auto and offered me an excellent deal on my Mazda B2500 D/cab and even offered me cash difference ! as the saying goes if it sounds too good to be true then it probably means just that !Now another garage with a 'tree' in it just had one model at the time of visit, but souded quite knowledgable about the marque I was looking for. I even visited 'The Vine Place' at Chilton County Durham, seemed a long way to go for a 6k service and MOT !

I think I may have seen your Surf over at Barnby Dun, Does that mean mine is glacier Blue then ?it is a very light blue over silver I have put a s/steel rear tyre cover on ,just waiting for a quote on someone painting the disc with some aviation 'nose art' on it
(it has an indian chief on at the moment ,got it from 4x4 at Leeming)

                          John

now let's no beat around the bush (or tree) here's a clue

A key will usually open something or somewhere you want to be and be happy

A tree is was lynch mobs used to hang people from (sometimes innocent ones)

If I'm being too crypic then Tree =
                          and Key =

just my opinion tho (call of the lawyers)
