odd sound!!

I have recently started noticing a strange intermittent noise coming from the engine.

It tends to only occur around 800 rpm , and again at 1200-1500 rpm. It has a higher pitch than the general diesel rattle, and does not change pitch as i increase the throttle.

Also, it happens whether the auto is engaged or not.

It has a rattly whiny quality, and i have been unable to get the damn thing to happen when i've got the hood open.

Its a long shot, but can anyone suggest possible causes or things to check?thanks in advance

Mine does the same thing and it is driving me up the wall it is like a metalic squeal happens just off tickover and goes at about 1200-1500rpm sound like it comes from the gearbox(auto)i think it may be the torque converter plate but im not sure if you sort it give me a shout

I have some sort of low humming noise coming from mine - very annoying and even noticable over the stereo?????

Mine makes loads of noises I can't usualy trace. Last noise was a squeaky tensioner pulley. Think I've got a worn CV joint now. I gave up worrying long ago.

Have you checked your exhaust plates as these come lose and rattle or squeeling sound (metal to metal) Had 3 different rattles on mine when i bought it. One was a lose screw on the door sill plate and took agest to locate.
