  • OK I'm Stumped

Well got everything back together after the rebuild however Turbo won't cut in. I've gone through all the pictures and as far as I can see, all the vacuum hoses are in the right place, the turbo pressure sensor is connected, I have removed the turbo and replaced the gasket between it and the manifold so no air leaks there.

Any ideas. The engine runs smooth and quiet however it is gutless as there is no turbo boost. 4WD system works as well so no problem there on the vacuum hoses.

I'm really at my wits end here so any help would be greatly received.

    It's a 2LTE engine.

    Cheers

    turbo

I know it sounds silly, but if all is connected fine, try disconnecting the batteries for ten mins and put back, ya never know...

        .

No, engine check light out, comes on when ignition is on like turbo light, goes out when the negine starts.

I'm sure it's one of the vacuum pipes on the wrong way, however I've been through all the pictures and it all looks OK.

Went down the town in it today, runs perfectly well except it's sluggish as anything, won't hit more than 35 going up a hill i can normally hit 50 up.

        Cheers

          There you go then!

          sorry, its the beer talking..................

Have you pulled the turbo intake pipe and made sure the turbo impeller spins free still.

Yep, still runs fine, even had the turbo off this morning and replaced the gaskets and checked for free play and free spinning. All ok. Couldn't think why it would haved a problem as I didn't take the turbo off the manifold when I took off the head and it worked before I took it apart.

Also didn't look to be any bits of the valve in there either.

            Cheers

Got any way of fitting a boost gauge, this will tell for sure you have pressure.

Lindas 3.0 has a turbo pressure sensor on the bottom of the front of the intake manifold, Its just a hose that goes into the sensor. I snapped the fitting off the sensor somehow doing her head, the hose was still on there, but leaking around the crack. Had to epoxy it back on. I'd be looking for something along these lines.

hi just quick check have you made sure vac pipe which goes to near side wing control solonoid is on i,ve had that as prob loads of times
                I,LL GO FIRST NO PROB

Might have to go and get one. I've had a look at the turbo pressure sensor filter looks like it is fitted OK and tight enough however I might try fitting a straight piece of hose between the inlet manifold and the turbo pressure sensor just to prove the sensor is working.

How free should the turbo impeller, there is slight drag to it but I can turn it with my little finger easily, just doesn't continue spinning on it's own.

                  Cheers

Yep that's on ok, as is the filter and the connection to the inlet manifold (Turbo pressure sensor pipe).

                    Cheers

Jon that would be good later on, Around 3 will be good if that's OK. Will you be at your workshop as I can drop in on the way back from work.

                        Cheers

could the wastegate valve on the turbo be stuck open?(could the connecting rod from the diaphragm to the wastegate be bent maybe holding it open?),to be honest this is unlikely unless it was levered against or something but if everything else is fine might be worth checking.
you have probably checked this already(i dont know wether the 2lte has this, is there a vacuum solenoid valve between your turbo pressure sensor and the vacuum hose coming from the manifold?if so try bypassing the vacuum solenoid valve (running a vacuum hose direct from the manifold to the turbo pressure sensor).

are you 100% sure of your timing?

Wastgate is OK, timing was spot on as well, Turbo just isn't spooling up at all.

Starting to think that it is the turbo knackered. Could be that some of the valve went in and destroyed the vanes on the input side - no evidence on the output side but that doesn't mean much.

Looked through some old photos of when I put it back together last time so I know I have the vacuum hoses on correct.

                              Cheers
