  • Stuck in Park

Right, the Mrs has just phoned me to say our 2.4TD has a prob.
She turned the ignition on and the only light that comes on the dash is the battery light. The car starts and ticks over but the gearbox wont come out of Park. I told her to push the red button and it does go into gear and drives. Any suggestions???

Probably a stupid question but did she put her foot on the brake first before trying to put it into gear?

Thanks for the reply, yeah we have had it 5 weeks and she is used to it. No dashboard lights other than the battery. But it starts and ticks over fine, humm!!

Hmmmm, I'm not sure about the dash lights yet, I'll have a ponder!
But the gear thing tho' It may be that something needs adjusting, prob to do with brake pedal, as i can here a solenoid or something click when i press the pedal to move the gear shifter.

hope i've been some help on my day off,
        Vince.

sounds immobiliser or perhaps turbo-timer related.

There is a solenoid underneath the gear shift cover that stops you putting it in drive unless the brake is on, etc, etc. It can just be adjustment or it could be buggered.

I had trouble with mine so threw it away! If you want to check it you need to take the centre console off.

              Rich.

REMOVE THE SURROUND FROM AROUND THE AUTO SELECTOR(4 screws on sides) ON RH SIDE NEAR FRONT IS A SMALL THIN BAR APPROX 4 INCHES LONG RUNNING FROM SELECTOR AT BOTTOM TO THE RED BUTTON CHECK IF THIS HAS COME LOOSE OR OFF IF SO SIMPLY CLIP BACK INTO PLACE.MINE CAME LOOSE AFTER REPLACING BULB IN SELECTOR AND SAME PROBLEM AS YOUR MISSUS.

guys, none of the idiot lights are coming on there is only a brake light coming on when the ignition key is turned, it has to be related to this.

Just finished work so on way home I called at her work and looked at car.
The electric windows dont work either. Not having looked for fuses yet I looked under bonnet and all ok. Since returning home I found Japanese manual and discovered it has more fuses like my other import, by right foot plastic panel. Could it be a fuse stopping this lot? I shall wait till she comes home. Lights, indicators all work just as mentioned, Windows/Dash Lights(ONLY BATTERY light works) and gear selector dont work, there might be more that doesnt work but I will look when she gets home.

Could that lot be on a fuse? I wouldnt have thought so, but being that the windows dont either sounds electrical?

                    Any thoughts.

Check the window lock button on the door first!

But, yeah, could be a fuse.
