I have had quite a few 1st gens, one was quite famous as the only right hand drive solid front axle truck believed to be in this country, and its still going strong with its new owner.
    Thanks for the advice fella.

Once it's up and running again I'll give you the nod next time we're up on the plains.

Hey bud - I've run the engine for a minute with rocker cover off, let the oil settle down after switching off, and the inlet valve on the cylinder in question starts letting little white whisps of spoke up through the stem and spring. No other valve is doing this does this so I'm thinking maybe all I've got is a bent/broken or tulipped valve that needs replacing.

Looks like I'll be whipping the head off anyway so I'll keep you posted.

Not sure where to get the replacement valves from - are they the same as the ln130 heads?

Sounds like a split valve guide and bent valve.

Check the inside of the bores for corrosion as well that's what made me fit another engine when i did the same thing ..... it's a pity as the spare head i had went when i sold the first gen , you could always fit a 3 litre from a non electronic 4runner in there in there. But the engine mounts need to be moved.

Cheers guys. Quite intimidating job when I've never done one before but progress is well.

I've stripped the cooling system out and removed pulley etc. Working on removing inlet and exhaust manifolds today so hopefully head will be off by end of day!

Royal pain in the a$$ doing it on my old dears driveway as well!

Good news - the head is real straight, no damaged valves.

The con rod on 1st cylinder was bent like a banana so I've swapped that out.

No bore damage either. I got a lucky escape.

I've now gotta rebuild everything - hopefully i'll remember the order I stripped it in Got a full engine rebuild gasket kit from milner for £35 I've installed new water pump too and have all new belts ready to go.

Just waiting for cam bearings to arrive on Monday and I can get everything done.

Another question, the turbo light has never worked on the dash so I'm guessing a broken or damaged wire maybe the cause as every now and then it flashes green. You guys had to play with this at all?
