Glow Plugs

I didn't mean to cause offence, was just saying that I know the drill when it comes to starting a diesel. Didnt want you thinking I was just turning it straight to start etc.

Just trying to take you through a logical fault finding process to cure your hard starting.

So far you are fairly certain that your battery/batteries are in good working order.

I think we can agree that your fuel primer may be suspect.

IMHO I would get the garage to prove the glow plugs are working, whilst doing this it would not hurt to get them to do a drop test on the batteries, ensure that they are tested in isolation as per Vince's suggestion.

Looks like unburnt fuel. Check that the glow plugs are actually getting power. Garage could have blown the glow plug fuse.

Take it back to the garage, if you start messing with it & cause damage you haven't got a leg to stand on & they will say its your fault.

When my Land Cruiser under fuelled there was clouds of smoke!

I had a chat with a friend of mine who runs a garage and used to own a surf.

He told me how to check the plugs for voltage and to see whether they are clicking off too soon (in the morning when its nice and cold), if they are not clicking off too soon then to bring it in for him to have a look at as its obviously something else.

I also spoke to the garage that fitted the plugs and they said they are NGK plugs.

Just watched that vid...does it carry on smoking when you rev it after starting?
Could it be oil entering the combustion chamber due to a fault unrelated to the glow plugs and over fueling is where i'm going with that thought.

If you press the accelerator after its started it just kicks out too much smoke so i avoid it. once it's warm, as in 1 minute, it doesn't smoke at all.

I see others have suggested tests on the glow plugs, have any of them been done?

Consider putting a volt meter on the glow plugs and getting someone else to turn the ignition on, time how long the glow plugs stay powered up.

If we assume there ok, as there new and that as it's fine once temperature is in the engine, perhaps the timer side isn't keeping them on long enough...or in fitting them the connections to the plugs or the bar that feeds them are poor. You could work along the connections with an ohm meter and see if any has high resistance.
