  • Water pump dead.. possibly.

After trawling all the posts on leaking coolant from just behind the bottom pulley, pretty sure its behind the cambelt cover, I am 99% positive the water pump has decided to spit the dummy.
It drips fairly constant ( a drip a second) while running, and even when not running, if I squeeze the main hoses I can force a drip or two out (still talking about the truck here)
My only niggle was that uptill yesterday, all was well, no leaks, no puddles then yesterday afternoon I replaced the old water, with new coolant. Is it possible the coolant(ethylene glycol) had something to do with it? Or is just a rather annoying coincident? Checked all hoses and all seem tight, no weeping (was actually hoping for this, easy fix) but alas it looks like a PITA job is on the cards.
    Ideas?

Sounds like the water pump needs replacing I'm afraid.

Any problems that are lurking always seem to show up with a coolant
change or after adding anti freeze(ethylene glycol).

Not sure why though, maybe some gunk has been disturbed that was
    helping to seal the system.
    Still on a mission.

If you change the water pump then i would do the belts at the same time unless you know they have been done since you have had the truck. It will save a lot of hassle later

Typical, I had the cover off 6 months ago when I had the fuel pump out. The cam belt was done about a year ago, not much km's done since then but probably worth changing. So not what I wanted right now.

Don't need to redo cambelt if its fairly new, but if you would prefer to then go for it. Waterpump can be replaced without cambelt removal.
well, that was a bad idea!

http://www.toyotasurf.asn.au/techsite/waterpump.htm If its weeping, would that not corrode the belt (2.4)
The sh$t gets deeper ...but still swimming

Water pumps should not leak behind the cover. They have drain holes for the bearings outside of this and a seal around cover to prevent anything getting inside the cover. If it leaks inside cover, then it's more likely the gasket. If the belt has been wet with coolant, replace it. If reusing belt, remove it before removing the pump or it will get wet.
