  • Frosty Welsh Core plugs?

This is trivial maybe, but I'm wondering if the so called frost plugs actually ever blow out on the Surfs if water freezes in block or head? or are they actually just core plugs for machining purposes, is it a myth they will protect the engine if only water was used instead of antifreeze mix.

Also wondering how far sub zero would a Surf head (2.4 say) last - with only water in the cooling system, could -5 do damage over a night?

I don't get it, why even bother risking it? If you like gambling buy a lottery ticket, don't even slightly risk fawking your truck up!

It's not hard to put coolant in a motor, you seem to want to make things hard for yourself?

If you pop a core plug chances are the motor will have to come out for you to reach it, or at very least a major strip down in the car.

It really is a no brainer, for anyone with a brain....

They're not frost plugs, or freeze plugs, they're core plugs. They are plugs, that fill holes made during the casting of the block, which just happen to pop out if you're stupid enough to run your engine without anti-freeze in a cold climate.

          Do as Mr Tony says...

PS Core plugs only corrode and leak if there is no anti-freeze, which is mis-named, in the engine.
