[QUOTE=Kiwisurfing;730209]Not to sure as I havet had my head go but dosent a cooling system pressure test find out if its pressurising to fast, ie crack in head letting gasses into coolant lines? someone else whos had this done might know more

Not always. It all seems to start off with tiny wee cracks which dont really open up enough to pressurise the water jacket but which do allow you to keep losing water. Probably the best test is the combustion products in the coolant test.

edit: ps the temperature gauge means shit all, towing a heavy trailer and you can feel the temp rise and yet my gauge never moves, others report similar experiences too
What tends to happen with them, until it goes catastrophic, is that cracks are pretty small and tend to only open up when the engine is really hot. As such it's pretty much impossible to detect the cracks with a pressure test. You dpn't need a pressure test once the cracks do open; water and steam goes everywhere.
