Glad it was easy and you got sorted. Thanks for the temps, mine is getting cam belt etc done very soon so i am going to do the stat and a flush through in the hope that it lowers temps(i have also got a trans cooler to fit at the same time)
it looks like i am in for a busy couple of weekends.

I guess if your sensor is in the thermostat and mine is in the hose there will be some difference between us. I imagine the housing will conduct some heat from the block? I can see when the thermostat opens and the temp zooms up, would you see that if it's not in the hose?

I thrashed about, loaded up, on the motorway today but it didn't top 86.

From start up i get an almost immediate steady rise in temp until about 88 - 90 then it settles at this if the engine is not being worked hard. This is probably when the thermostat opens. The difference in mounting location probably does make a difference in readings and also there will be some difference in tolerances especially if made by different manufacturers. I think the main thing with the extra gauge is that you get to know how your engine normally behaves and is a clear indicator if something happens (unlike the factory fitted one which always reads ok)
It does give peace of mind, which has got to be a good thing.
