You don't have a crank position sensor on a non EFI 2.4.

If you've done injectors and are sure all the vacumm hoses, especially the EGR ones are ok, and the timing is correct, then I'd be looking for a good used fuel pump next. The lots of gubbings on and in the manual pumps its easy to mess up, sometimes its easier start with a new one.

Try a compression test if you can, just to make sure its mechanically ok, but normally hard to start if its down on compression.

Asl ocheck the timing marks on the side on the pump, but the outside bolt, and make sure someones not tried the advance the timing to make it go faster, same goers the small adjusting nut on the top of the stop solonoid, people alter this to change the fueling.

Black smoke is usually unburnt fuel or over fueling, stuck open EGR, or just an old engine if it makes smoke but runs ok under load.

          Well................

Managed to finally re-route the fuel lines correctly.

It's definately up on power, but there is now such a diesel knock that it sounds like there is an issue with the top end. No more black smoke, but puffs out grey smoke on tick over & under load.

Have purchased a compression tester (hi-lo gauge) but have been unable to source the adaptor to screw in the glow plug hole. Any suggestions where a boy could source one without having to buy a kit...!??

Don't really want to go down the route of splurging out 150-200 notes on another manual pump at this point. DO you guys know of a reputable place where I could get the plunge stroke & setup of the pump tested at resonable cost..??

Sorry, one other tiny point. The VSV (I think its called) thats attached to the vacuum setup of the EGR system has snapped off. Would this greatly affect whats going on above...???

Thanks again for you energy everyone. Am hoping to put this to bed very soon with all your appreciated experience
