  • help changing the oil-now wont start?

Hi hope you can help me out here?I decided to change the oil and filter in my hilux 2.4td j plate, this evening after work, after letting it drain and going back in for the obligatory cup of tea went back out,and looked at the colour and looks like it has not been done for quite a while so thought there was still prob still quite a bit of really dirty stuff in there and had heard that the best way to clean it all out would be to use distilled water through the oil fill hole and clear it out meaning no dirty oil would get in the new oil so i've run that through, left it for 15min and then started it and run for a few min to 'dry out' the distilled water.

So after that i put the oil drain plug back and filled back with oil and started a short drive to check it and now it is struggling to run properly,
Have i forgot to do something?

    Thanks rob.

Just a quick question. When you "run It" with distilled water in was there any oil in the sump, and was the drain plug fitted, or did you run it for 15 mins with no lubricant in the sump at all ?

Sorry if it's a daft question but it's not very clear from your post

I really really hope that this a very unclear post, cos if its not and you did exactly what you said in that order, then you have wrecked your Surf. It would appear that you ran it with NO oil in it at all.

I think you might have read the "how to flush engine Coolant" instructions. Water, distilled or otherwise should never enter the engine via the oil filler. Could be an expensive oil change!

This may be of some help for future oil changes:

first time iv'e heard of using water to flush engine , should have used cheap oil and engine flush then emptied again then refilled with decent oil,
could try changing oil again ?!!!
running it dry for a few mins is it april 1st ??

Maybe if you add a hydrogen fuel cell you can get it to run on water.

Or maybe convert it to run "on" water:
