Yours is not a daft question, there was no oil in there as i was trying to get all the old oil out,and left the sump plug thingy out to let it all drain out whilst it was running.i was told it would be ok as long as the engine dont get up to temp?

This may be of some help for future oil changes:

Thanks for the link antshiel,i will use that link in the future,do they do one for a cam belt change?

Or maybe convert it to run "on" water:

      look on the bright side...

At least oil floats on water. Fill it up with oil, leave it for a while, drain the water out using the sump plug.

Then go get some de-rusting dust, and a handfull of cornish pixies. Pour the mixture of dust and pixies into your oil filler (NOT the rad, you put WATER in there) and they will clean everything up for you.

When you have finished, and it still isnt running.... I need a couple of bits such as the window motors, arear bumper corner and a few bits for the air con. Since you'll be breaking it for bits, can I have first dibs on them please?

      Thanks

              From the link I posted.....

My car was idling like crap the other day so I figured since I just got it, it may have been awhile since anyone changed the oil out. I decided to go ahead and change the oil. I used Mobile 1 synthentic oil like I was reccomended on here. Anyways, I drain out the oil and noticed it was extremely dark and even after 10 minutes of draining, it was still coming out. I decided to go ahead and flush it to make sure all the bad stuff got out. I hooked up the hose, ran water through the engine, started it up and was waiting for the water to come out clean (The engine never went above idle so I was told this would be ok). Anyways, About 3 minutes into this, then engine starts shaking and shuts off. I figured it was all cleaned out so I plugged it up, added the oil and figured I was ready to go. WRONG! The car won't freaking start now. This car has been nothing but trouble for me, I think I am done with it.

I got a car in a few years back that was knocking on the bigend's, turn's out the lady had topped up with waxoil.
Didnt do the engine any good but it was well preserved.

                        And this is true.
IT's not how you get in it . IT's how you get out.
