  • Oil in Intake

It has been a while since I posted and I have researched on the forum with no definitive answer.

I have excessive oil in my intake before and after the turbo. This is a new problem that I noticed after I had installed a new Injector Pump. It may not be the reason but I have noticed it since then.

I seem to be burning too much oil as well.

I have lots of black smoke when I accelerate, with turbo boosting. If I gently touch pedal then it will not smoke.

Truck seems to run good, no lack of power and turbo pulls good on highway speed.

I do need injectors and glow plugs and will do them soon. I am concerned about the oil though.

If it is excessive blow by is there anything that can be done?

If it is the turbo could it cause oil in pipes before and after?

Any ideas or things I can try?

    Thanks much

    Frank

The oil is normally vapour thats collected in the tubes from the breather hose on the valve cover.
Another cause is worn turbo seals, but that would cause a lot of exhaust smoke all the time.
Black smoke on hard acceleration is normal for these 'old school' diesels.

      Thanks Bushwhacker

I would say I have oil dripping in the intake much more than just wet. It runs into the air filter.

I have installed a catch can that I made myself and will see how it goes but it only masks problem.

I have had the truck for 3 years and most of these symptoms were there before but much much less than now.

Have not had a chance to do a compression test yet.

I can say that I am losing 1/2 liter of motor oil on a cold start up. Does not seem to be losing oil after that though.

I think I may have a bad oil ring on a piston. I have to get a compression check when cold and warm to check if thats it though.

I am starting to think I will have to pull this engine and tear her down......I hope not. I put some "lucas" oil treatment in the oil, which by the way is some real sticky thick stuff. Maybe I will get lucky and it will start sealing again, if thats the problem.

I will update when I know more.
