  • head gasket??

right heres one for you lot!
just stripped down my old engine to keep my new head, now either i'm wrong or the mechanic is really in for it!!
tried to attach a photo but will not work (how do you do it??)
on the head gasket there are holes for the oil and bolts, yet the holes for the coolant channels are very strange? there are some about 15mm and some like small sausages for the want of a better word, now the 15mm ones only have a 4-5mm hole in them and the others have no holes?? both on the head and the block have channels that meet but the gasket seems to not allow the coolant to flow?? is this right?
any info would be great. and how do i get a photo on here???

    cheers G

Actually that is correct - the genuine gasket does block off some of the waterways - why I don't know. Also you can't actually fit the gasket the wrong way up otherwise it doesn't line up. I think the restrictions are there to speed up the flow of water in the block.

To attach a photo, scroll down the page to the manage attachments button, click this and a dialog box will come up, click browse, find the photo you want to upload, when you have selected it click upload and wait until it shows in the list under the browse button.

Once you have uploaded all the pictures you want then close the window. The photos will appear as a thumbnail in the post.

    Cheers

        Head Gasket ?

I looked in to see how my Head rebuild is going, & my mate said they would have had the new head together if it wasn`t for the wrong Gasket set being sent. .. so maybe he saw what you saw with the covered water holes ? i think i will give him a call & let him know.. i am also having new injectors fitted so i should recoupe some cash, well i live in hope.
i have taken pics of the heads, new & old so you can see the effects of the new Toyota on board Kettle has on your engine.
you will have to excuse the qaulity of pic`s, i had to reduce them...
why the hell do they make cameras with 4.0 mega pixels when files can`t take em ?

It`s not unual for the gasket to restrict the flow of water, my Stock Car uses a Ford Pinto engine complete with cast iron head and block like a Surf (but it doesn`t crack it`s head even with the life skimmed out of it!) and the waterways on both the block and head are quite large but the same holes in the gasket are much smaller so maybe they are there to restrict the flow and increase the water speed.
