  • 4 wheel drive stuck on

After having a few quiet months without doing anything on my lovely red truck (except the odd tinkering when you need to get away from the mrs) I decided to finally reconnect my new dual batteries up and try to start the engine. Firstly might I add that if you do happen to own a supra 2jzgte then you might want to have the custom made exhaust on the truck before you start, especially as my ears started bleeding. No exhaust from the manifold will do that to the mortal man.
My question is that my 4 wheel drive light is on. without the button being pressed or in low box. So i turned the hubs round numerous times as it's on axel stands with no wheels at the moment, and still wouldn't disengage. Does anyone have any ideas why?

I was under the impression that you needed power to the four wheel drive system to engage it, but i have not had any batteries on it for at least two months. I'm probably wrong though.

    cheers

    Power and vacuum.
You need to drive the truck forwards and/or backwards a couple of metres to disengage the A.D.D.

Just before I go and do this I'm just going to check with you. There are no front and rear props on it at the moment. Will it work if i wizz the wheels back on and tow it up the road?

Not really, you'll need the front on to turn diff.

Right a bit of a farce but i have managed to weld an old 3/4 impact socket onto the end of an old prop connection and bolted it onto the front diff. So I had a 3/4 drive air gun turning the front diff round at not a bad speed both forward and backwards. I had one of my friends holding the front left wheel and another holding the front right, braking each at different interval.

Needless to say that for some reason the four wheel drive will not come out it is stuck in. I really need to sort this as with the power output of the new engine will snap eith half shafs or front diff in no time.

Any ideas. Could you explain in detail how exactly this front diff four wheel drive setup actually works?!

If you want to disengage the ADD temporarily then connect a vacuum supply to the disengage side of ADD actuator and cap the other port.

Cheers for the tech info. was really helpful. I am going to strip down the front diff within the week. I think it has seized in the locked position as it's natural rest without vaccuum is unlocked.
