Give diesel bob a ring, he is a really nice bloke and knows his stuff. I got a set of injectors from him told him how much veg i use and he set them up so they would run on the mix i use. What a difference! if only my turbo worked it would be lovley.

I have been working with diesel engines for many years, right from single cylinder "donkey" engines up to Caterpillar tractors.
In my experience this type and style of injector has it's "break point" ie when the fuel pressure actually starts the injector needle to lift, adjusted by a shim inside the injector, sitting either on top of, or below the spring. I would sugest therefore that these broken ceramic washers you have would be ok replaced with either a fibre or copper washer.
Common sense tells me that a ceramic washer would not be soft enough to form a seal between the top cap and the injector body, it also tells me that the tensile strength of a ceramic washer would never be high enough to withstand the torque needed to make a seal between the two parts.
At a guess I would think the two parts of the injector are most likely sealed internaly by a taper at the top of the threaded portion of the lower part and these ceramic washers only stop the dirt from getting in between the two parts and causing rusting of the threads.
If this were mine I would first take one injector and thoroughly clean the outside of it with petrol or a spirit cleaner to remove any dirt, then keeping to the clean theme, put the body in a vice and carefully unscrew the top portion, inside you should find a heavy spring with a shim, be careful not to lose the shim !!! don't worry, the spring will not be under any load after a few turns of the upper body, you will feel the tension come off way before you get to the end of the thread !!
I would then measure the thickness of the old ceramic washer and replace it with a fibre or copper one to the same value or slightly thinner if thats all you can find, definitely not a much thicker one as you will not be able to tighten the top part to the body properly and leaks will result.
Re-assemble the injector not forgetting to make sure the shim is in place and re-fit to the engine, do the remaining injectors and then test by running the engine and checking for fuel leaks.
If this doesn't cure it at least you will have tried, you should be able to do all 4 injectors in 1/2 hr if they are already out and it might just save you a bit !!!
One thing tho, DO NOT DISMANTLE THE INJECTORS ANY FURTHER THAN TAKING THE TOPS OFF, THEY ARE A VERY PRECISION MADE PART AND EVEN A SPECK OF DUST ON THE NEEDLE SURFACE WILL CAUSE IT TO STICK !!!! KEEP IT CLEAN, INCLUDING YOUR HANDS !!!Let me know how you get on if you decide to give it a go.
Best regards to all, John.

omg.how much shit can you get your self into.ian the washers dont have anything to do with the spray pattern and fuelling.that is done by shims inside the nozzle.so it shouldnt be a problem as said before use a fibre or copper washer, that should do the trick.Last edited by surfenstein; 25 January 2008, 20:35.www.overfab.uk
