  • Oily water??

I have noticed that the water in the expansion bottle has a slight film of oil on it. 1990 2LT-E. Engine starts and runs perfectly, and doesn't use oil or water. Any suggestion as to cause, and any repairs, appreciated.

    you have two possibilities

one being contamination when you fill the water up

the other being possible breakdown in the head gasket

    i could be wrong though.........

Have you flushed the coolant out yourself or just topped up the existing stuff.
      Is the film colourless?????

        Not the head gasket PLEASE!!

Cooling system was flushed at local garage 4 weeks back, oily film is better described as black sludge.

              Have flushed again

Okay, I have flushed the system with a cooling system cleaner, and run the hose for half an hour through the heater hose. will drive for a week and see if it appears again. Thanks.
