  • Urgent: 2.4TD LN130 Diesel Pump (Fuel Injector pump)

Hi all, been a reader for a while and really enjoying the forum (and surf life in general!)

Like many others, the fuel pump has started leaking. I've got the kit from Millners to fix it, but when the mechanic had a look, the pump is nothing like the version that is shown in other threads. (http://www.toyotasurf.asn.au/techsite/fuelpump.htm)

I've got this extra item on the pump, and hunting around the net, I think it might be either a Turbo compensator? or High Alt Compensator? But the pics are not an exact match.

Anyone got any ideas? The truck is now leaking badly (especially on fast idle).

Before the mechanic takes the top off and finds that there are booby traps, please can some one email / post any words of help! If the pump falls apart on opening, the cost of a proper rebuild maybe too much to warrant (Ive been told £600 quid plus just for the rebuild!)

Cheers guys and keep up the good work!

Looks like you have the Mechanical Pump. The pics on the Aussie Tech Site is for the EFI Pump. Post your Model and Frame numbers and I will find the diagram for your pump. The part you refer to looks like a Boost Compensator.

Its the altitude compensator, the mechanical pump is harder to do than the EFI pump, the throttle fitting is fiddily, and you have to mark where all the parts go or you'll have to mess around to get the idle right again. It has to come off to reach one of the lid allen screws.

There is also a spring under the throttle fitting that is awkward to get back on, but its not impossible.

When you take the lid off, there is a spring and pin that is easy to lose, it fixes from the underside of the lid, on the throttle lever, and goes to the rear of the guts of the pump to a lever.

Its a bitch compared to the EFI pumps, but thats life!

              Evening Nev!

Don't spose you have any info on a 2.8 mech pump, I did a lid seal recently, but the inside of the pump is different to the 2.4 mech pump as showns in the Max Ellery book, specifically the link from the throttle spindle to the governer bit.

I'll have a look now. Do you want Jap or European. Not sure if there will be a difference.

All the previous ones are for the 2L-T.

Can you be more specific about the Model that the 3L is in,. Model and Frame number or even just the Model.

Lots of diagrams for the 3L pump.

Its was in a 2.8 89' double cab pickup, imported from Cyprus. The truck isn't here ATM, its just the I had lots of trouble getting the idle sorted after removing the top of the pump, all my matchmarks didn't work out on reassembaly, and I had to set it all up myself to get it to idle. Its running fine now, but would like to have a bit of info on it so I can check I had all the bits.

The pump externally looks the same as a 2.4, but bits inside didn't relate to the 2.4 pump pics.

                      Cheers mate.

Thanks guys - really scared now!

                        Hey!
Cheers for the info and pics. Looks pretty scarey so will hand the lot onto the mechanic and see what he says. I know its a cop out, and I do most stuff myself but these beasties just look like an opportunity for much pain and anguish!

It sounds like its pump out first anyhow. At least then if it all goes wrong we can post it to a diesel specialist! Anyone know of a good one that takes pumps by post?

Really dont want to say goodbye to the beast so fingers crossed that this can be fixed. (Goes in for surgery on 19th Feb)...

Anyone know if it's possible to swap out a mech pump from a broken surf - or is that just gonna result in hours and £££ in getting it set up to work?!!!

                        Cheers

Here's a series of 3L Diagrams. Maybe they will help.

Thanks mate, thats great, spring No 22317 in lower left side of 2nd pic I never had! It would explain why the pin at the end seemed loose. Wonder If I can get one on its own.
