    Hi surfs

I know this is a hilux website and I do post on this site with my own hilux..but I would appreciate some help I am thinking of buying a 1992 Hi ace diesel automatic cruising cabin/campervan import 4 wheel drive its a 2.4 or 2.6.but the head gasket has gone..its loosing water out of the exhust..does anyone know of anyone who may be able to fix this?...in the Buckinghamshire area? and is this problem similar to the hilux when head gasket gone..ie new head etc..Or is this model able to replace gasket...bearing in mind that the engine compartment is in the cabin between front seat driver and passenger..
It lifts up and there is the engine in a very tight space..

Thanks hope I dont get barred..

I think that they have the same engine as a 2.4 surf and subject to the same problem....Still the better informed will be along later and correct me if i am wrong

Hi I thought they had a 2.2ltr enghine like the TOYOTA PREVIA/ESTIMA which also has head problems, but a quick look has seen that the they actually do a 2.4, 2.6, 2.8 and 3.0ltr so I think you will have to find out a bit more info about the car however a lot of the old toyota engines seem to have had a similar problem so it would not suprise me if you need a new head, and I know that 2.2, 2.4 and 3.0 heads are easy to find so I am sure the rest are too.
      Good luck

Total guesswork here but it seems from looking at this that the 1992 4wd hi-aces all have the '3L' engine, which is the 2.8 diesel found in the occasional surf. If it's the head, the '3L' head is the ever-popular 'modified' '2LTE' head on all the 2.4s that have popped so can be sourced from Stevo.

Could be head or gasket I suppose (look for 'mayonnaise' or any of the other typical HG failure signs). Gasket is, I think, about £500 to sort, head about £1,200. I would have thought TonyN could do it for you.

The 2.4 HIACE has the same problems with the HEAD cause it uses the same head
