  • Higher output dynamo's

    Howdy folks;

in the process of rebuilding the 2LT - the dynamo ( alternator ) is 55 amp

seems paltry - would like to incease this to at least 80 amp - winch , aux lamps etc..

has anyone addressed this issue before- and what have you done about this

    would you care to share

already discussed the idea of new Stator - Rectifer is the bigger issue?

    cheers thanks for your imput

Not sure if it's the MR2 alternator that's a higher rated close fit. Other
option would be to have a word with your local auto electrical specialist.

Cheers thanks for the idea- yet the MR2 is petrol yes?

will not have the vacuum pump on the backside - i have heard of the aux electric vacuum pump idea- rather stay as close to original as possible

      cheers ya

Only other option is to brainpick your local auto sparks then.

I took my altrenator to be rebuilt, and they replaced the internals with higher output alternatives... never got a straight answer where they came from, but replacing the stator with one that fills the original case better, will get you ther result you are looking for.

So carfully strip it down, photos of how it came apart, and a trip to you local parts store with the oringinal stator and the case... and see what else fits...

              Cheers thanks:

I will bug my local electrical guy again and see. But I did speak at great length with an expert -
here is the states there is a company that offers a mobile welder running off your trucks dynamo - so I spoke to the guy who supplies all the guts for the 90 amp dynamo requirements

Stator is not the problem , is heavy duty rectifier that can handle the increase .

May have to turn my search there and see if I can get some guts

care to pass on the name of the shoppe

say ? what year is your rig ? is LN130 no?

              Cheers thanks ya

As it is in the profile to the left...

                '91 LN130W with a 2L-TE, its a late '91 born in November...
And it has the vacuum pump in front of the alternator.

The guys who rebuilt the alternator are Sahib Electronics in Hanger Lane, West London... in the UK...

www.yell.co.uk should be able to give you the contact details...

Did I mention I have a BLUE one

                    howdy fatfires:

Stateside these days - Desert southwest - Sonoran Desert to be exact

If you can get me his name or contact info I can reach him and perhaps get some ideas on options

AndyLala: should have looked round a bit - and wanted to make sure

I suppose the questions I should be asking is would this LN130 dynamo work on my LN67 - 2L-T ( 1st generation ? ) as to your 2L-TE

                    cheers ya thanks

1st gen alternator is different wirring to a 2nd gen . Sumo made a 2nd gen one fit and I did supply him one from a pick up 2.4 which was the same as 1st gen wirring.
So as far as I know you can fit a 2nd gen to a 1st gen by moddyfiying (spell check) the wirring loom .

                        Cheers thanks ya

I may have seen a write up somewhere's about the loom or simply the plug

how much ( many ) amps are these 2nd generation pushing

Now the next question is how plentiful are these dynamo's?

A good thing here stateside is CarParts.com - you can hunt parts from many sources in one site and see inventory - only vehicles available in North Amerika

Dont believe secnd gen 2 L-TE'S every came here

                        cheers thanks again

not bad - the Hitachi from an Isuzu box truck - nearest swap I have come across , is 80 amp

Guess i am setting my sights on a 2nd gen 2LT-E dynamo

now just have to save my shrapnel for postage

                            cheers thanks ya
